Job Description
Close protection officers (CPO's) form part of an escort team working to maintain the security of VIP's, business people, royalty, celebrities and other significant individuals. Otherwise know as bodyguards the work involves managing and ensure the safety of the individual in their care. The work involves risk assessments on routes, training on emergency procedures and alternate routes, surveillance, working in team, maintaining vigilance at all times. The work is rarely 9-5 as the job may be round the clock taking clients to business meetings, parties, events, travelling abroad. The CPO may be away from home for long periods of time if working with a client on extended trips or time abroad. CPO offices undergo rigorous tests for fitness, firearms training, risk assessing and advanced driver training. The nature of the role tends to attract ex police and military personnel. CPO's can go on to consultative roles with firms advising on risk and security. The role can have much down time but also risky when working in dangerous contexts.
