Cosmetic Scientists create safe, attractive products for the cosmetic industry. The role may involve creating lipsticks, creams, toiletries and hair products. The role involves the development and formulation of the product, testing and analysing any affects to ensure the product is safe for human use and products the results it was intended for. Cosmetic scientist can work in development, research, product manufacturing, regulation or quality control. Cosmetic scientists usually study at degree level in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or pharmacy. Newly qualified graduates can earn over £20,000 with experienced cosmetic scientists earning over £50,000. Entrants into degrees need to have 2/3 good A levels including chemistry or complete a foundation course/HND in science, Higher national in Scotland.
