Cyber Incident Analyst

Job Description
Cyber security is a rapidly growing industry as companies and governments seek to protect their assets, data and intellectual property from a variety of threats. Incident Analyst are tasked with dealing with cyber security incidents within a business and organisation. The role involves technical response and investigation capabilities with regard to the incident and providing feedback on improving the business's incident response capabilities. the role may involve:-

  • Investigate computer security incidents  using forensic and memory analysis tools
  • Work as part of a  Cyber Intelligence team to identify sources of external incidents and propose controls to minimize risk
  • Provide solid technical expertise to support any  response teams offering forensic analysis of network traffic, network packets and log files
  • Help in the writing and develop of standard operating procedures for handling future types of incidents
  • Contribute to the development of the companies Investigations and Incident Management strategy

Entrants into this career as a junior cyber security analyst usually have a degree in computer science or MSc in Cyber Security with some experience of working on Intrusion Detection Systems. (IDS). You will also need general knowledge of network protocols, network applications, malicious code as well as programming skills. You will need good analytical and problem solving skills in this technical area, an ability to work alongside other security professionals and ability to write concise reports.  To advance in this career you will need to have a keen interest in cyber security and have a growing knowledge of current trends, software and hardware vulnerabilities.
