Deer Managers control the habitation and deer livestock on a country estate. They undertake census information and analysis of the deer stock, control of the stock numbers and ensuring minimal damage to trees and crops. Deer managers may also qualify to train others in using firearms, taking clients on deer stalks or run courses in game meat hygiene. Deer Managers may be employed by estates, forestry commission, nature reserves, or work on a consultancy basis and must follow deer management policies and practices. Deer managers work with park rangers and landscape managers to create glades, grazing areas and fencing to protect crops. Employment in this work comes through having experience in other game activities or working on a large estate where the role may be combined within other game keeping.
