Heritage Conservation Technician
Job Description
Technicians help with the conservation and preservation of cultural works. Galleries and museums employ trade experienced professions such as joiners, cabinet makers and other skilled crafts such as metal workers. In an art gallery the work could involve creating sculptor supports, frames, producing suitable storage facilities and transportation cases. The role may also have some general maintenance activity, assisting with design of installations under the supervision of a senior technician. The institute of conservation have created a qualification for technicians which provides opportunity for apprenticeships in this sector. Jobs are advertised with museums and galleries.
