Surveyors assessing, monitor and report on the condition of vessels for compliance with safety regulations, for repair and maintenance costs and for surveying damage for insurance and repair purposes. They will assess structure, equipment and machinery of vessels from large tankers to small yachts. The role involves working with builders, ship owners, insurance companies, naval architects and other professional bodies. Surveyors may have a background in marine engineering, quality systems, naval architecture or have had other marine interests. Marine surveyors may work for insurers or consultancy firms.
