Planning Inspector
Job Description
Inspectors examine and decide on appeals made in regard to town and country planning acts and environmental legislation. They also look at appeals with regard to local development plans and frameworks. The work involves examining supporting documents and written objections, conducting inquiries and hearings and may undertake public inquiries before making any final decisions. These planners are highly qualified and work for planning inspectorates in England and Wales, the planning appeals commission in Northern Ireland and for the Scottish Executive. Inspectors look at listed building appeals, advertisement appeals, rights of way issues, compulsory purchases and are responsible for national infrastructure planning. They aso work on pre- planning applications on major projects..
