Career Matrix Exercise
Our career matrix is a tool in printable worksheet and excel spreadsheet to help students/career changers decide between different career plans or job ideas. The tool can be looked at study or training options e.g. degree choices or deciding between college courses or post 16 or post 18 decisions. It can also be used for mature job changers looking at different career paths.
How does it work?
Individuals enter their preferred career options in the columns then consider key elements or values that they are looking for in a career on the rows. The table includes examples for those looking a different job occupations such as creativity, autonomy, progression, variety, opportunity and training but can be formatted for any option being considered.
The exercise provides simple steps to complete and the excel spreadsheet does all the calculations.
The exercise includes an importance weighting criteria, ie how much is one particularly element more important than another? This intentionally skews the results to show how student/client perceptions of a career or choice changes the results and gives some clear answers that clients can act upon.
Who can use it?
Anyone who needs clarity on their career plans or progression ideas.
Can I use it on my own?
Yes ! Simply follow the exercise instructions but we think having some one to one guidance will help the process.
