Team ManagerJob Description
Team managers provide leadership and technical direction to their racing team. The work involves the day to day management of personnel and race crew including mechanics, racing drivers and other support staff The role may also involve financial management, logistics, planning of races and public relations. In smaller race teams the business operations such as marketing, finance and sponsorship may be contracted to a management team to allow the team manager to focus on the racing operations and race day strategy. In formula 1, race management involves a large team of personnel covering roles such as technical director, sporting director, team principal and design and development director. Race Managers in highly technical sports tend to have degree background in automobile engineering, mechanical engineer or another related discipline. In other divisions race managers may have worked as a motor/bike mechanic or in other aspects of working within the motor retail industry before moving into race management.
