Tournament ControllerJob Description
Tournament controllers are responsible for planning, organising and staging of golfing competitions. The role requires you to be highly organised, have a knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. For roles with the PGA you would need to have an extensive knowledge of the games, generally be playing to a high standard and have passed the PGA or R&A examination on golf rules. Tournament controllers usually have gained experience in the amateur game in organising competitions and will have excellent IT skills and be good at managing database systems. Other essential skills include a high level of organisation, strong written and oral skills, confident presentation and an ability to lead teams. You would need to be able to cope with pressures of the role in high profile situations and be able to make quick decisions when necessary. The job would require you to work to strict procedures in the planning and regulation of the event and also adhere to budgets for the delivery of the event. Such a role could lead on to being involved in high profile national and international events if you are keen to go further.
